Friday, 17:52. Somebody ate the birthday cake, and SENTINEL, the office's brand-new security bot, takes it badly. It seals every door on the floor and starts a surprise audit. Nobody goes home for the weekend until the audit passes.

Escape Your Office is a free co-op escape room that runs in the browser. Your team spreads out over three rooms you can look around in 360°: the open office, the boardroom and the kitchen. What you need to open a lock is rarely in the same room as the lock, so people split up, say what they see and put it together. Most of the game happens in conversation.

The tone is light office comedy: sticky notes, voicemails from colleagues and a bot that takes cake very seriously. A run takes about 20 minutes, so it fits at the start of a meeting or as a first game for a team that has never played one. It is also a quick way to check that everyone in your group can connect before a longer session. We built the rooms from phone photos of a real office, and we can build one from yours.

Step right up

How to play

  1. Step 1

Join the call and the game

Everyone opens the session link in a browser and types a name. There is nothing to install. Keep your video call open next to the game window.

  2. Step 2

    Look around

Drag to look around each room in 360°. Orange glows are things you can use, white glows are documents to read and purple glows are doors.

  3. Step 3

    Split up and report back

Anyone can open anything, and everyone sees the same state. Spread out over the rooms and say out loud what you find.

  4. Step 4

    Some moments need the team

A few steps cannot be done by one person. Agree on a plan and act together.

  5. Step 5

    Get home for the weekend

Each lock has hints if you get stuck, and a game host can give a nudge. A run takes about 20 minutes and ends with a team scorecard.

Open office. The balloon poster, the desk pairs and the window wall stayed. The clutter did not.

Boardroom. The TV wall, the certificates and the long table made it in. The view got a little sunnier.
